Apartment Parking Questions to Ask Before You Sign

Assigned spots, permits, towing rules, and safety: the parking questions that protect your car and your guests.

Use the questions below for the exact unit and dates you are considering, and record any point management has not confirmed.

What does your rent actually include?

Ask whether parking is assigned, first-come, or paid separately, and whether covered spaces or garages cost extra. Get every parking charge on the written fee sheet, not only in conversation.

If parking is unassigned, visit the lot around the time you would normally come home and see how full it is. Record the date and time, and treat one visit as a sample rather than a guarantee of future space.

How is parking enforced?

Ask about permits or decals, how guests park, and when towing is enforced. Ask what happens to your own car if a registration or permit lapses.

If a vehicle is towed in Texas, the owner has rights around signage, fees, and challenging the tow. Reading them before you ever need them saves stress later.

Is the walk from your car safe and practical?

Walk the route from the lot to your door after dark and judge the lighting, sightlines, and distance for yourself. Ask whether cameras cover the lot.

If you drive an electric vehicle, note where charging sits now rather than after signing. If you drive a truck or oversized vehicle, ask about height limits and whether it is permitted.

Are the parking terms in writing?

Ask for the parking terms in the lease or a signed addendum, including your spot number if one is assigned. Keep the written agreement with your lease records.

Before signing, compare the written parking terms with what you were told on the tour and ask about any gap.
